The Stanley Project
created 04/02/09It is amazing what a couple guys with a good idea can do!
STEVENS POINT HEROES
Community Service is provided in endless ways. These two men, Larry Frostman and Jim Traenkenschuh, have been providing FREE bikes to kids for over two years. These two men have donated their labor and skill for over two years to increase the availability of bikes for our area.
Their work has earned them the Local Advocate/Educator of the Year Award from the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin.
In just over two years, as of 4-1-2009 they have provided over 1829 bikes to people in the Stevens Point Area.
During the summer of 2007 and 2008 they contributed bikes to the children's program for the National Wellness Institute.
They have also begun work on a project to provide bikes for Students at UWSP.
How do they do it? Great question! They just do it!!!
Occasionally they will sell a valuable bike to raise money for the parts or supplies needed to bring bikes into working order. They accept donations of bikes or cash to continue their work. They enjoy sharing their skills with people who want to learn how to repair bikes. They have a number of volunteers who provide assistance.
Drop off "under used" or "over used" or "wrecked" bikes at their headquarters any time day or night. Even if your bike doesn't work, it might provide the parts needed to make another bike functional. If you can make a contribution to them, they are now a legitimate 501 ( c ) 3 tax exempt community service.
