Male/Female Summary

 

ý     Men are drinking more often than women:  32.1% of men drink 5-10 times a month, whereas 23.7% of women drink 5-10 times a month.  28.6% of men drink over 10 times a month, and only 5.2% of women drink over 10 times a month. 

 

ý     This is also evident in the number of drinks consumed of specific days.   On Thursday nights, 55.5% of men drink 5 or more drinks, where only 30.3% of women drink 5 or more drinks.  Similar statistics for Friday and Saturday nights.  Fridays:  64% of men drink 5 or more drinks; 33.3% of women drink 5 or more drinks.  Saturdays:  58.9% of men and only 31.7% of women drink 5 or more drinks.

 

ý     More men than women are drinking frequently due to peer pressure:  17.2% of men and only 6.4% of  women.

 

ý     More men report drinking frequently due to taste than women:  45.6% of men drinking frequently because of taste; only 28.9% of women.

 

ý     More men are drinking occasionally and frequently because of boredom than women:  a total of 39.3% of men drinking occasionally or frequently because there’s nothing else to do, whereas only 23.4% of women drink occasionally or frequently because of this reason.

 

ý     14.9% of men and 8.5% of women use marijuana more than 10 days a month.

 

ý      The majority of negative consequences due to alcohol use are happening to men.  However, more women than men had conflicts with family, become sick or vomited, or had a traffic accident.
