We hope when you come to our wedding, you take some time to enjoy all the DC area has to offer. We encourage you to plan ahead with other guests to take advantage of some of the parks, museums, and monuments. To help you plan ahead, you will find a little information below about a few of our favorite spots in DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, Maryland

This is where we will be going for the Friday Night Contra Dance. This park is also great for daytime visits with kids. It has a playground, a renovated carousel, Discovery Creek nature center, the Puppet Co., arts and crafts, and guided historic tours.

Kid friendly. Car needed. Free.

Great Falls Park, Great Falls, Virginia

Manassas Battlefield Park, Manassas, Virginia

Walk quietly in the sun and woods while following the path of Union and Confederate soldiers. Historic tours, a visitor's center, monuments and markers can turn this "hike in the country" into a moving experience.

Good for kids who can handle long walks and historic monuments. Car needed. $3 for adults, free for kids.

Awesome museum featuring exhibits about building and community design and planning. Lots of hands-on stuff for kids, breathtaking open space with fountain and benches, and truly compelling exhibits.

National Cathedral, Tenleytown, Washington DC

Always features interesting exhibits. You can take a tour if you plan ahead. A must-see for anyone interested in big, gothic architecture. The organ is astounding.

National Mall, Washington DC

Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, WWII Memorial, Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, Korean War Memorial. . . You do not even need to set foot in a Smithsonian museum to have an extraordinary number of things to see. Don't try to see it all -- you'll wear yourself out!

Kid friendly, if your kids can handle long walks and historic monuments. Mostly metro accessible; car/tour bus needed for some. Free.

Smithsonian Institution, National Mall, Washington DC

So many museums. And the National Museum of the American Indian just opened, so now you'll find even more to explore. Do not try to cover everything, or you'll just become frustrated. Plan ahead, and just enjoy one or two museums fully.
