Nottoway Park

We are excited to be having our wedding on a summer afternoon in one of Fairfax County's fun public parks. We hope you take the time to enjoy everything Nottoway Park has to offer. You will find several tennis courts and basketball courts, beach volleyball, wooded areas, picnic areas and a number of sports fields.

Feel free to come early or stay late to take it all in. Bring extra sports equipment with you, and don't forget a change of clothes for you and the kids!

 Hunter House at Nottoway Park

Hunter House is a historic property built in 1890 as a small farmhouse by a Scotsman named John C. Hunter. As Hunter House expanded over the years, it served as the center of a working farm, and after Prohibition, a winery producing "Virginia Maid" wine. The house is currently cared for and operated by the Fairfax County Parks Authority in Nottoway Park, and is available for public use. We will be using both the building and the grounds for our ceremony and reception.

Fairfax County maintains several historic properties. If you are interested, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/weddings.htm

Things to Keep in Mind

Children: Bring 'em! Kids of all ages are welcome to come and play, be noisy, and wreak havoc as they see fit.

Weather:  The ceremony and reception will be held outside. Hunter House is a fairly small building and will not accommodate all wedding guests, so we will be using a tent for the reception and, if it rains, for the ceremony as well. Please check the weather and dress accordingly. We will use a tent with sides which we can roll down if weather requires it.

Attire: Dress up and have a little fun! Be comfortable, though, and plan ahead for playing outside. You may want to bring a change of shoes or clothes in case you get compelled to play touch football. It will probably be warm during the day and cool in the evening, and in the DC area you always face the possibility of rain. Dress lightly and bring along a sweater/jacket/wrap. It can't hurt to carry an umbrella, just in case.

Accessibility: The tent, grounds, Hunter House and restrooms are all wheelchair accessible. Ceremony and reception all take place on the ground level.

Alcohol: Wine and beer will be served in the afternoon. However, due to Fairfax County Parks restrictions, we will only be serving drinks on the porch of the Hunter House. You can carry alcoholic beverages onto the grounds of the park, but no drinks may be served there. Our caterers will stop serving early in the evening.

Historic Property Restrictions: No smoking inside the Hunter House or on the porch. Please leave your rice, birdseed, flower petals, silly string, glitter, and confetti at home.
